Transactions Group Staff Lawyer

One of Halifax's leading law firms, Burchells LLP, is currently recruiting for a full-time staff lawyer to work in the Transactions Group to start immediately. 

Burchells provides a wide range of legal services to regional, national and international clients, major banks, small business owners, indigenous businesses, individuals, insurance companies and all levels of government.

The staff lawyer will work closely with the lawyers in the Transactions Group on drafting and document preparation to support the practices of lawyers in the Transactions Group.  Prior experience in corporate and commercial law and estate planning and administration is considered an asset.

Burchells LLP has the region's largest Aboriginal Law practice, providing legal advice to Aboriginal Peoples in various parts of Canada since 1985.  We provide a wide range of legal services on behalf of First Nations, Tribal Councils, Indigenous Rights organizations and indigenous businesses.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years of experience and be able to produce work collegially in a demanding and fast paced work environment.  Prior experience in Aboriginal Law is considered an asset.

Summary

• Enhance lawyer effectiveness and the delivery of quality legal services through production of timely, accurate work that meets our work standard of “Do it once, do it right”.
• Provide efficient, accurate, professional and knowledgeable support to the lawyers you report to and in turn the firm’s clients. 
• Support and work with your co-workers in a timely, accurate and helpful manner.
• In addition to providing substantial corporate/commercial, estate planning and administration legal assistant support, the position involves occasional duties relating to real estate transactions. 

Qualifications

• Formal Legal Assistant/Paralegal Education (include transcript with application).
• Experience in the area of corporate/commercial law is required.
• Experience in the area of estate planning and administration will be considered an asset.
• Sound judgment in a fast paced environment with changing priorities.
• Flexibility, initiative, organization and prioritization skills are critical.
• Attention to detail and accuracy are a must.
• Strong communication skills.
• Excellent spelling and grammar skills.
• Excellent computer knowledge – full Microsoft Office Suite.  Minimum typing speed of 60 wpm.
• Knowledge of other software programs will be considered an asset.
• Takes pride in a job done well.
• Above average ability to work in a team environment with all members of the firm.
