2023 was full of exciting firsts for Burchell Wickwire Bryson LLP. Perhaps the most exciting first is the admission of Ashley Hamp-Gonsalves and Roy Stewart to the partnership.
Ashley is dedicated to advocacy and social justice. She has assisted Indigenous clients throughout Atlantic Canada in labour and employment and governance matters, as well as in the Courts in civil litigation and administrative law disputes. Ashley also works for non-Indigenous clients in the areas of employment law, professional regulation, professional negligence, human rights, general civil litigation, and administrative law. Ashley is the current Chair of the CBA-Nova Scotia Aboriginal Law Section, Co-Chair of the BWB LLP Diversity and Equity Committee, and is a part-time faculty member at the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University, where she is a Co-Coach of the law school’s Kawaskimhon Moot team alongside her fellow new partner Roy Stewart.
Roy’s practice focuses on assisting Indigenous clients throughout Atlantic Canada. Negotiating rights implementation on behalf of Indigenous clients with the Federal and Provincial governments forms a large part of his practice. Roy is a past Chair, and is the current Vice-Chair, of the CBA-Nova Scotia Aboriginal Law Section and has been a part-time faculty member at the Schulich School of Law at Dalhousie University since 2020, where he is a Co-Coach of the law school’s Kawaskimhon Moot team.
