JUSTICE MICHAEL WOOD

"The Honourable Mr. Justice Michael J. Wood."

Our [now former] litigation partner and co-manager is going to have to start getting used to his new title.  On September 29, 2011 Michael Wood was appointed to the bench of the Nova Scotia Supreme Court.  Burchells LLP congratulates Michael on this career milestone and unparalleled honour.

In his successful former life Justice Wood's wide-ranging civil litigation and administrative law practice encompassed construction disputes, complex contract and business matters, employment law, professional regulation and insurance, among other areas. His practice was characterized not only by pragmatism and competence, but by a collegial approach to the adversarial process. He earned and kept the respect of lawyers, both inside and outside the firm.

Justice Wood was called to the bar in 1982 following legal studies at Dalhousie and a Bachelor of Sciences from Acadia University. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1999. Until his appointment Justice Wood was a managing partner at Burchells and past-chair of our litigation practice group.

We have known Michael Wood a long time.   Take it from us: he will be a great judge. Congratulations Michael!

His Lordship will preside in Halifax.
