Former Burchells Partner Michael J. Wood appointed Chief Justice of Nova Scotia

Today Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's office announced the appointment of Supreme Court Judge and former Burchells LLP partner Michael J. Wood as the new Chief Justice of Nova Scotia.

His Lordship's former colleagues at Burchells LLP could not be happier for him.

Until 2011 Justice Wood had a wide-ranging civil litigation and administrative law practice with us, characterized not only by pragmatism and competence, but by his collegial approach to an unavoidably adversarial process. He earned and kept the respect of lawyers inside and outside the firm.

In the eight years since his appointment to the Supreme Court, Justice Wood has been a busy and active jurist.  He has decided a variety of difficult cases, most recently gaining national and international attention for his oversight of proceedings surrounding the high-profile collapse of the Quadriga cryptocurrency exchange.

We are happy to have had the chance to work with Justice Wood prior to his career on the bench.  As our Chief Justice he will make an excellent representative for Nova Scotia's judicial system.
