Canning elected to Barristers' Society Council

Burchells offers hearty congratulations to litigation partner Cheryl Canning, who was chosen by her colleagues throughout Nova Scotia for an at-large seat on the Council of the Nova Scotia Barristers' Society.  The 21-member Council governs the Society, the regulatory body for all lawyers in the province, and its three at-large members serve for terms of two years.

Her election continues Cheryl's tradition of service to the profession.  She currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Lawyers Insurance Association of Nova Scotia, Chair of Canadian Bar Association Wellness Board of Directors, and as a peer volunteer with the Nova Scotia Lawyer's Assistance Program.  She also is President of The ARC Group Canada, a network of independent law firms across Canada focusing on insurance law and risk management, and has been actively involved for years in the Canadian Defence Lawyers, the Canadian Bar Association’s Insurance Section, and the Nova Scotia Insurance Women’s Association.

Not surprisingly, given her proven commitment to the profession, Cheryl received the most votes of any of the five candidates for the three at-large positions in this year's Council election.

Well done, Cheryl!
